This one-day trip takes you into the mountain landscapes of northern Georgia, following the historic Georgian Military Highway toward the northern border. We travel through the Aragvi Valley, stopping at the 17th-century Ananuri Fortress and a few scenic viewpoints.
In Kazbegi, we visit the Gergeti Trinity Church, set high above the valley with views of the surrounding peaks. From there we continue into the Dariali Gorge, once considered the gate to the Caucasus. At its northern end is a working monastery on the border, where monks build, carve, paint, and make their own wine. Nearby are the ruins of an old fortress overlooking the border with the Russian Federation.
Depending on time and interest, you can also hike to Gveleti Waterfall or take a short detour to Sno Valley, known for its landscape and stone monuments to notable Georgian figures.
