Travel eastward from Tbilisi through the Gombori pass into Kakheti. You'll start at Ujarma Fortress, a medieval ruin overlooking the Iori River valley, then visit the 11th-century Alaverdi Monastery, known for its tall cathedral dome.
At midday you'll reach Telavi, a town with cobbled streets shaded by old plane trees. In the afternoon you'll visit a wine cellar, where the winemaker uses traditional qvevri vessels to make wine. You'll taste several local grape varieties and have a seasonal lunch made on site.
Your guide explains the history behind each stop, and your private driver handles the travel between them.
This day trip covers Kakheti's historic sites and wine country in Georgia's eastern region.
